Tetris Pots – ceramic ideas for creative interiors

Another immortal inspiration has found a new design revival and practical usage. The French product designer Stephanie Choplin has incarnated the Tetris idea into colorful ceramic pots or just Tetris Pots. Born as a simple experiment during the ceramic course in the Estonian Academy of Arts, Stephanie’s initial idea was to personally carry out the model, the mould, the molding, coloring and cooking. Unfortunately the model was too big with complex molding of 2 parts and the final result was not satisfying. So what’s left is the brilliant idea, illustrated in 3D models below, waiting for go-getting production.

Anybody to give them another try? I’m definitely buying.

Instead of the Tetris Pots, Stephanie Choplin decided to carry out a single form and create several objects using the same form. So with a smart tweak and re-shape of the traditional cup, you’ve got an impressive complementing ceramic cup set, that your kitchen will fell in love with.

Designer Axes collection spring 2009 by Best Made Co.

Exclusively hand-forged and tempered from one of America’s old axe companies, then hand-painted and polished by the founders of Best Made Co. to mould their spring 2009 axe collection. The shape of all 11 axes reminds me of the Indian tomahawk and the mixture of its wild spirit and the contemporary design patterns makes the entire collection standing out in style. The thing is that only an old hardcore boy scout will probably afford prices varying from $200 to $550.

FIRO – innovative cooking device for modern picnics

One of these lasting memories from my childhood is the open air camping, where gathered around the camp fire, we wrapped potatoes and onions in cooking foil to bury them in the live coals and eat later on, like they were the most delicious thing on earth.
Pretty much all the inventions these days are exploring our good old habits trying to improve and polish the experience. Whether it’s a steel of our natural ways of reaction or a pure enlightenment on how things can work better, the progress is always here to stay and the FIRO concept by Andrea Nimtschke is totally proving it.

FIRO is a portable oven made of technical ceramics and a perfect multifunctional device for outdoor cooking. It holds 4 pots, attached to a railing construction with a swiveling support for maintaining the food level, thus way FIRO can be easily and safely dragged in and out of the fire. The pots are used both for cooking and eating purposes with utensils that clips on the sides of each pot and temperature insulation pockets for handling while hot. All from above in a compact and elegant 5 kg package.

While the pots count short and look way to small, it’s a concept which will turn your modest picnics in a modern and stylish experience.

How to easy make your own designer Shuttlecock Pendant Lamp

The Brooklyn based designer Kiel Mead is vastly popular with his jewelry cleverness, quirky designs and his casual way to give new meanings to trivial objects. If you haven’t been already dazzled by his work, search for the clever Forget-Me-Not ring, which is modeled on a piece of tied string, the charmed hung casting of chewing gum or the emblematic matchstick necklaces.

Kiel Mead is from those kind of designers who doesn’t intentionally create something, but rather grows his work out of own personal obsessions and researches, on topics that electrify his interest. This is exactly the case with the Birdie Light – fascinated by the “gentlemen’s” sports, like croquet, tennis, badminton and the eloquence and poise that such activities require, Mead started to play around with the classic objects, used in such sports to finally come up with unbelievably simple and enormously cool looking Shuttlecock lamp-shade.

Ingredients and tools:

Goose feathered shuttlecock
Power drill
1/2 and 1/4 drill bits
Candelabra socket
Plug
15 Watt light bulb
1m. lamp cord

Make it:

Start with a proper shuttlecock. The plastic ones that you and I grew up with were dumped down for modern culture – authentic birdies are made with goose feathers, which are way more appropriate for their purpose to glide back and forth through the air.
Working from the feathered end of the shuttlecock use a 1/4 bit to drill part of the way into the cork top. Use a 1/2 bit to drill the rest of the way through and thread the lamp cord through the shuttlecock. Attach the candelabra socket to one end of the cord, so that it will end up nesting inside the core of the feathers. Secure the plug to the other end. Press the socket into the cork, screw in the light bulb and hang. Resist the urge to swat.

Birdie Light is most likely to become a favorite interior companion, but it seems really hard to resist the temptation of testing your forehand on it every single time you pass close by.

You can say that his latest work is outstanding with its design maturity and originality, but what really impressed me are couple of his old creations, which explore people everyday needs and gives a different meaning to the common objects, by optimizing their purpose. Following is a selection of Tomas Kral’s 4 extremely practical kitchen appliances:

Lap Counter
The Lap Counter is a plastic tray and a neat kitchen facility, which gives you the mobility to peel, chop, slice fruits and vegetables almost anywhere in the house. It’s ergonomically shaped to fit the lap of the sitting person and it’s molded for both a container and a working surface. It will barely sit on your drying rack or fit in your washing machine, so it’s better thinking in the direction of assembling different modules, but besides that the Lap Counter is a brilliant facility for your prep cooking comfort.

Jetspoon
